Year of realization

2020

In the marvelous setting of the hills that make up the Langhe landscape, near Monforte d'Alba, architecture must know how to welcome and respect the environment but also to introduce style, innovation and sustainable comfort. The project signed by the architect Carlo Brocardo was born from these stylistic elements.

The farmhouse is immersed in the hills of the Langhe, with significant landscape perspectives overlooking the valleys of Cuneo and the Alps, not far away. The residence is located halfway up the hill, with an orientation favorable to maximum solar radiation during the day. The project, as requested by the clients, maintains the external lines of the original building dating back to the 60s, then deconstructing the interiors, changing their destination and shapes.

To create the necessary comfort of spaces for the different needs of the owners, all the non-residential part that in the past was used as a stable, barn and tool shed has been recovered, intervening on these structures.

Insulations and systems have been adapted and designed with respect for thought green of the client, who wanted to choose highly performing systems in terms of energy.

Very linear and minimalist external and internal geometries make up the farmhouse, which is organized on two living levels above ground, a garage obtained from an old shed and a porch with outdoor kitchen, all surrounded by about 2000 square meters of land where the swimming pool is located. infinity.

The close relationship between living and outdoor spaces is very evident, aided by the use of “square” stone elements that favor the conceptual and visual connection.

The garden is made up of plant elements that are linked to the natural landscape; the patches of green are connected by light paths to obtain an effect of complete immersion in nature, with all the colors and scents typical of the hilly landscape.

The swimming pool finds space in the area of land with greater slope, to accentuate the “balcony” effect more: it seems to float in the green, open towards the sky and the profile of the hills.

Unstructured spaces with a contemporary taste

The internal space, unstructured and free from traditional standards, now unites the environments and intended uses that were previously divided, creating an airy feeling of space and communication.

On the ground floor there is the living area and a part of the sleeping area with private bathroom and walk-in closet. The living room, obtained from the old stable, is characterized by a double-height space that communicates with the other part of the sleeping area, on the first floor, via the staircase that acts as a trait d'union physical between the two levels.

The large and high window gives light and views to the living room and the sleeping area on the ground floor.

The kitchen is open and separated from the dining area only by the fireplace. On the first floor, an open-space environment overlooks the rooms below and gives access to the three bedrooms and two elegant and particular bathrooms.

A study area acts as a hinge: from here two iron and wood walkways branch off that give access to the outdoor terraces with lightness, designed for relaxation.

The lighting has also been designed for each room, starting with the large modern chandelier that illuminates the double-height living room. Spots and spotlights highlight some details of the architectural structure and its décor. Many furnishings have been designed by the architect Brocardo: bookcases, consoles, equipped walls; his design work is also responsible for the choice of materials used for the finishes and furnishings such as wood, plasterboard, fabrics, leathers, ceramics and precious marbles in the bathrooms.

By will dictated by a passion of the customer, a large cellar was also designed, used by the owners for wines and as a pantry, where there is never a shortage of local products: a choice that adds to the project a deep bond of belonging to a land that gives colors, scents, flavors and emotions.
